David A. Scott

David A. ScottDavid Allen Scott, born Aug. 22, 1948, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at his home in El Paso, Texas.

David was born in Denver, Colo. He graduated from Paradise Valley High School and went on to obtain a bachelor of science in electrical engineering at ASU focusing on fields and waves, and a USC master of science in electrical engineering focusing on control theory. He worked as an engineer developing algorithms from 1970 to 1996 in Michelson Lab and Echo Range at China Lake. He later worked for NASA at Edwards Air Force Base and Boeing.

David enjoyed chess, poker and other strategy games, astronomy and going on cruises. He discovered BWTS, a bijective improvement to the Burrows-Wheeler Transform for data compression. His family and friends fondly remember his intelligence, generosity, and humor. He is survived by his wife Esther, his siblings Scottie and Sharon, his children Andrew and Heather, his grandchildren Juliette Scott, Chloe Pearsall, and Gavin Pearsall, and an extended Mexican family.

Private services will be held in El Paso, Texas.
