Mesa enlisted in the Navy in 1980 and was assigned to China Lake in 1982. He spent two years supporting ordnance testing on programs including the AIM-9M Sidewinder. China Lake was Mesa’s first and only reserve station where he served in his civilian occupation as a weapons supervisor for what is now Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 31. He is currently the Naval Air Systems Command technical area expert for flight clearance performance monitor weapon/stores for several Navy series aircraft assigned to the Systems Engineering Branch. — U.S. Navy photo by Ron Rodriguez
