To the Editor: Walkathon needs support

Please join us and our local elementary students for the 31st Annual Kiwanis Community Walk-A-Thon. This is the largest annual fundraiser for our elementary schools. Thanks to businesses like you, we have raised over $630,000 since the Walk started! In these economic times, our schools are in more need of community support than ever before.

Our club is asking for donations in any amount for the continued support of our elementary schools. If everyone contributes even a small amount, we can raise funds for much needed supplies, sports equipment, educational field trips, and many more projects to enrich our young students’ education.

All of your contributions, minus direct expenses, go back to the schools and programs which benefit our local children. None of your donation goes to the Kiwanis Club. All money raised goes back to our community.

If you can find it in your heart to donate to our worthy cause, we will give your company some publicity in the local paper. Please make your check payable to “Kiwanis”. The business that contributes the most, will also get their name on our Walk-A-Thon Highest Donors Plaque, which you can proudly display in your business until next year! You can mail your donation to the PO Box above or make other arrangements with me to pick it up.

The Walk-A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, at 8 a.m. at LeRoy Jackson Park. Please join us and the children of our community that you so graciously supported through your much-needed donation.

For more information on how you can make a difference in your community, please don’t hesitate to email me at or call me at 442-243-1656.
