Ridgecrest Police officers arrested a DUI suspect after a high-speed chase early Monday morning.

According to an RPD release, Officer Joshua Beard attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 2 a.m. Monday after the suspect ran a stop sign near the intersection of East Commercial Avenue and South American Street.

The suspect, later identified as Isaias Barragan, 24, reportedly sped away from Beard, running more stop signs, driving on the wrong side of the road and eventually reaching speeds of more than 70 mph.

After apparent attempts to evade the officer in his vehicle, Barragan reportedly ditched his car in the 700 block of North Sunland Street and tried to flee on foot through the desert. As more officers joined the search, Reserve Officer Micah Lloyd found Barragan behind a bush.

Barragan was reportedly in possession of marijuana and suspected methamphetamine and under the influence of drugs. He was arrested for evading arrest with wanton disregard for public safety, driving under the influence, bringing drugs into a jail and driving with a suspended license.

Barragan was booked with a $90,000 bail, and his pre-preliminary hearing and bail review are scheduled for Feb. 26, 10:30 a.m. in Ridgecrest.
