Police arrest suspect after car chaseA car chase ensued after Ridgecrest Police officers attempted to stop a driver who reportedly ran a stop sign over the weekend.

According to a police report, the driver of a Ford Aerostar van failed to yield in the 100 block of North Gold Canyon Dr., then led police on a chase for more than 10 minutes. The pursuit lasted for roughly nine miles.

“During the pursuit, the suspect failed to stop at several stop signs, red lights and sped through surface streets,” said the report. “The suspect drove through several residential neighborhoods and business parking lots with no regard for the public’s safety.”

The suspect, later identified as 44-year old Ridgecrest resident Michael Swanson, caused minor damage to another vehicle.

Officers reportedly cornered him in a hotel parking lot on East Sydnor Avenue where Swanson was removed from his vehicle and taken into custody.

Swanson is facing felony charges of driving under the influence with prior convictions and reckless driving. He also faces misdemeanor charges of driving with a suspended license and hit and run resulting in property damage.

His bail is set at $137,500 with a bail review scheduled for March 12, 10:30 a.m., in Ridgecrest. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 14, 10:30 a.m.
