Red Cross service center opens at IMC

Red Cross  service  center opens at IMCAfter three weeks of serving hundreds of residents displaced or shaken by the July 4-5 earthquakes, the Red Cross shelter located at the Kerr McGee Center closed on Wednesday.

However, assistance is still available through a Red Cross service center that opened up July 18 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1201 N. China Lake Blvd. The office is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“If your home has been red-tagged or yellow-tagged, come see our caseworkers,” said a spokesperson. Caseworkers will be on hand to discuss disaster recovery plans with residents of Ridgecrest, Inyokern and Trona.

At the peak of shelter operations, an estimated 200 residents were sleeping inside and outdoors at the Kerr McGee Center. A spokesperson said that as the census continued to dwindle, the remaining residents were referred to the appropriate agencies to continue their paths toward recovery.
