‘Hooray for Hollywood’ is Sept. 28

‘Hooray for Hollywood’ is Sept. 28The Desert Community Orchestra will present its annual pops concert, “Hooray for Hollywood,” on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Desert Valley Community Complex at Desert Empire Fairgrounds.

Doors open for seating starting at 6 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

The orchestra will perform a variety of film score favorites from “Pirates of the Caribbean” to “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter,” “Forrest Gump,” “James Bond,” “Exodus,” “Rocky,” “Casablanca,” “Laura” and more.

Special numbers include an arrangement by Jordan Covert of “When You Wish Upon a Star” and a vocal rendition by Mark Hatter of “High Noon.”

“The evening will no doubt be a family fun event that will bring up enjoyable memories of many iconic movies that are a mainstay in American culture,” said a spokesperson.

“Who knows who will show up on the red carpet that evening? Will Darth Vader return from the Dark Side to make a special appearance? Or might James Bond even be hiding incognito in the crowd?”

Robert Martinez, DCO’s conductor since 1994, will once again direct the orchestra.

“His fun personality makes it a seasonal event you don’t want to miss. Who knows what movie character he might jump out as?” said the spokesperson.

“I love those great classic movies and the music that has come from them,” said Martinez. “You want to have a front-row seat for this one!”
