Thomas A. Brown

Thomas Arlis (Tom) Brown died Jan. 28, 2020, at his home in Ridgecrest. He was 81.

He was born in Wauchula, Fla., in 1938 to Arlis Thomas and Willie Mae (Mae) Brown. Tom joined the U.S. Marines at age 17 and retired as a master sergeant after 22 years of service in aviation ordnance.

Following his military service he worked at the Naval Weapons Center’s FMS Sidewinder Program in the logistics division. He traveled to more than 20 countries during his career, retiring in 1994.

Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sherry; children, Thomas Brown, Linda Gowin (Mark) and James Brown (Raulinda); seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Lynette Hardee of Gainesville, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Robert Adams of Wauchula, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia (Pat) Adams.

Tom was a proud Marine and former Freemason and Shriner. He volunteered with Boy Scouts and a DeMolay group as well as Toys for Tots. He was a fabulous cook, hosting many family gatherings.

Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2:30 p.m. at the H.K. Holland Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Navy/Marine Corps Relief or the Kidney Foundation.
