County adds more detail to COVID-19 dashboardOfficials of Kern County Public Health Department have once again added more layers of detail in their reports for COVID-19 results. The new dashboard unveiled Monday now includes breakdowns by race, gender and zip code.

The Kern County Board of Supervisors directed county counsel to consult with a legal expert on HIPAA, as well as a statistician, to determine what information could be released about positive cases of COVID-19 without violating individual rights.

Kern County Senior Epidemiologist Kim Hernandez walked through the additions during a press conference Monday morning. The interactive dashboard also includes information on how many tests have been administered, how many new positives are reported to the county, and how many diagnosed with coronavirus have died, are under treatment, or have recovered.

While Ridgecrest Regional Hospital has reported that six samples for COVID-19 have tested positively for the virus, the zip code map confirms that only three of those residents live in Ridgecrest (93555), with two cases listed as active and one recovered.

Inyokern (93527) has one case, now recovered.

To view information about cases, including breakdowns for demographics, view the dashboard at To access the zip code map, click on the “Interactive GIS Map” button below the dashboard. The toolbox for exploring details is located in the upper right hand corner of the map.
