BHS Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra win Festival

Sierra Sands Unified School District Ridgecrest, CA —

On April 10, the Burroughs Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra traveled to Fresno for the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Orchestra Festival. While there, both ensembles were awarded Unanimous Superior ratings for their performance and Superior ratings for their sight reading adjudication. This is the highest honor an ensemble can receive.

Music teacher Amber Petersen shared, “I don’t think I could be more proud of our students. I hear them on a daily basis, and it is easy to lose objectivity; while I know we are making great strides, it is difficult to anticipate how the judges will respond. Our students performed their best and created beautiful music. In the end, that’s all I could want for them. The Unanimous Superior ratings are a welcomed validation of our progress and success.”

Dr. April Moore, Superintendent, stated, “We are so proud of our talented students and their passionate, skilled teachers. This award is a testament to their hard work and dedication. We encourage the community to share the experience by attending the spring concert next month.”

We look forward to sharing our music with our community at our Spring Orchestral Concert on Wednesday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Parker Performing Arts Center at Burroughs High School, 500 E. French Ave., Ridgecrest.
