Kern County Elections Division announced the filing period for prospective candidates opened on July 18 and closes today, August 12. The election will be held on November 8.
The Ridgecrest City Council members up for reelection for Mayor are Eric Bruen. Thomas Wiknich and Troy Mather are running in opposition to Bruen.
Running for the City Council Board are incumbent Scott Hayman, Scott K. Miller, John P. “Skip” Gorman, and Christopher Ellis.
Candidates filing for the Indian Wells Valley Water District Board are incumbents Stan Rajtora and David St. Amand.
Filing for re-election for the Sierra Sands Unified School District, incumbents Kurt D. Rockwell ,T. Chad Houck, and Tim Johnson.
Also filing for the School District Board are Nicolle Harper, Karen Taggert, Mary Campbell, and Robert Campbell.
Running for the Indian Wells Valley Airport District Board is incumbent Russ Bates.
The deadline can be extended to August 17 for eligible incumbent candidates.
City Council Member, Peggy Breeden, is retiring her seat this year.
City Mayor is a two-year term; all other seats are four-year terms.
All candidates are required to be registered voters and residents of the city at the time of nomination to be elected with the exception of the Airport District. A candidate must submit a petition of nomination with a minimum of 20, but not more than 30, signatures within the ward the candidate would like to represent. A filing fee of $25 is required.
