Ridgecrest Chamber Music Society(RCMS) Elaine Janson– The Ridgecrest Chamber Music Society is pleased to return the Seraph Brass on Saturday, March 18. The concert will include works by Grieg, Verdi, Rossini, and others and more contemporary works by McKee, Esmail, McMichael, and DiLorenzo. RCMS would remind concertgoers that the venue and time have changed. The concert will begin at the Ridgecrest Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m.
As has been the case during this concert season, a short student performance by local music students will begin the program. The Ridgecrest Chamber Music Society is excited to have this month’s offering provided by the Ridgecrest Elementary Academy for Language, Music, and Science (REALMS) orchestra.
Trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden founded Seraph Brass to elevate and showcase the excellence of female brass players and highlight musicians from marginalized groups in personnel and programming. Winners of the American Prize in Chamber Music, the group has been praised for their “beautiful sounds” (American Record Guide), “fine playing” (Gramophone), and “staggeringly high caliber of performance” (Textura). Seraph performs primarily as a quintet, with a dynamic roster drawing from America’s top brass musicians.
The ensemble has toured around the world, including performances at the Tafalla Brass Week in Spain, Lieksa Brass Week in Finland, the Busan Maru International Music Festival in South Korea, the Forum Cultural Guanajuato in Mexico, the International Women’s Brass Conference, International Trumpet Guild Conference, and a two-week tour across China. 2022-2023 includes extensive touring across the United States through Live On Stage. Seraph Brass is a Yamaha Performing Group and performs exclusively on Yamaha instruments.
Seraph has a diverse repertoire, from original transcriptions to newly commissioned works and core classics. The concert for the Ridgecrest Chamber Music Society will feature works by Edvard Grieg, Kevin Day, Clara Schumann, Reena Esmail, Catherine McMichael, Franz Liszt, and so many more.
