CLOTA presents ‘The Gift of the Magi’ December 16 & 17

The Community Light Opera and Theatre Association– The Community Light Opera and Theatre Association, locally known as CLOTA, is celebrating the season with a brand-new Christmas radio show, O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” newly adapted for the stage and directed by Daniel Stallings, who directed Agatha Christie’s “Witness for the Prosecution” last fall.

Styled like a radio show from the 1940s, the CLOTA Radio family of storytellers have brought the venerable maestro of the short story, O. Henry, to their studio to share his timeless story, “The Gift of the Magi,” with you as our studio audience. On the air, you’ll hear and see the tale of Jim and Della Young, two newlyweds fallen on hard times whose true love for each other compels them to make personal sacrifices to achieve the perfect Christmas gift. What lengths would you go to so you could see a smile again on the face of the person you loved most? One of the most famous Christmas stories in the world will be brought to life on the CLOTA stage by actors, singers, and sound effects.

Starring Larry Cosner Jr., Haley Towler, Jon Towler, Monica Lorenz-Dwyer, Heather McGaha, Jonathan Blair, Rachael West, Allison Mitchell, Madeleine Smith, Nicole Johnson, and Libby Mitchell, “The Gift of the Magi” is a heartfelt holiday tale of love and generosity despite adversity, a classic story beloved for generations. The show will also feature fun and funny radio jingles written for the production by Monica Lorenz-Dwyer. And the night will conclude with a beautiful performance of “We Three Kings” sung by Nicole Johnson, Heather McGaha, and Rachael West. “The Gift of the Magi” performs December 16 and 17, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at CLOTA Center Stage (1425 N. Inyo St.). Doors open 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are sold at Red Rock Books and at the door. For more information, visit CLOTA on Facebook.
