Community ensemble to perform a concert on Easter Sunday

Community ensemble Britta Covert–

On Sunday, April 9 at 3 PM, a community choir and chamber orchestra will perform selections from Handel’s Messiah at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1031 S Norma St. Many singers performed in the local Messiah concerts in Winter 2021 and Spring 2022. This concert will cover 26 movements, including choral, solo vocal, and instrumental numbers. This will be the first of the shows to incorporate all previously performed choral selections with live orchestral musicians.

George Frideric Handel’s classic 1742 oratorio Messiah has long been associated with Christmas. Still, selections such as “For unto us a child is born” are actually only the beginning of a work that spans the life of Jesus and his significance in Christianity. Much of the text is focused on his biblical death and resurrection, making it relevant to the Easter season as well. Even the iconic “Hallelujah” chorus is several sections before the grand finale – Free admission.
