DCO Pops Concert Saturday Sept., 24

The Desert Community Orchestra Clint Freeman The Desert Community Orchestra (DCO) opens up its concert season Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. with their annual Pops Concert at the Desert Empire Fairgrounds Joshua Hall. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and donations are warmly appreciated.

The theme for this year’s special performance is “Pirates of China Lake, Part Quatre”, with selected movie/television music and classic greats oriented toward pirates and sailors of the sea. It will be great family fun for every sea chanty enthusiast of any age.  Featured selections will range from Pirates of the Caribbean, Il Pirata by Bellini, and Gliere’s Russian Sailor’s Dance.

John Williams’ Selections From Hook will also be featured as well as Badelt’s Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. And, don’t miss an old pirate sing-a-long led by our very own trombonist, Mark Hatter.

Conductor Robert Martinez will once again lead the DCO this season. Maestro Martinez has led the Desert Community Orchestra since 1994. His high-energy personality and infectious enthusiasm for music helps to make this pops concert a must-attend family entertainment event. “Now is a great time,” states Martinez, “to come and celebrate some music that has been a part of the old sea traditions for centuries. I’ll bet you Blackbeard, Davy Jones, and Jack Sparrow will be whistling and singing along from their graves. It will be an evening of great music and family cheer with the Desert Community Orchestra! Join the orchestra and come dressed as a pirate.”

The concert is free but donations are greatly appreciated.  Donations help cover many of the operating expenses associated with the orchestra. The DCO greatly appreciates the following sponsors: Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union, Pizza Factory, Beansters, Clint Freeman Coldwell Banker Best Realty, and Vincent Avalos Edward Jones.

This winter the Desert Community Orchestra will be performing its annual Christmas concert on Saturday, December 3, 2022, with the theme “A Christmas in Ridgecrest.” Other upcoming performances include “A Classic Winter” on Saturday, March 4, 2023 and “A Touch Of Class” on Saturday, May 13, 2023. This final concert will feature the winners of the Young Artist Competition.
