Desert Wildflowers blanket the hillside at Short Canyon

Desert Wildflowers blanket the hillside at Short Canyon, approximately two miles off Highway 14. The turn-off is a dirt road just south of Brady’s Mobil Mini Mart. You will find a very passable dirt road that will take you to this site.

The abundance of wildflowers is due to the above-average rainfall experienced this spring. BLM has provided a trail up the canyon that allows for spectacular views. It’s a photographer’s heaven. On an adjoining mountain slope, an orange blanket exists as far as the eye can see. It is a sea of California Poppies. The best times to visit are in the late morning and early afternoon. After one o’clock, many flowers begin to close. The season is relatively short as the hot sun takes its toll.
