A second raging mobile home fire totally destroyed two homes within a week. The second fire occurred early Saturday evening at 4:41 PM when Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a structure fire in the 1500 block of N LeRoy St near Inyokern.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fully involved mobile home on fire with additional structures threatened. Firefighters worked quickly to protect all exposures, confirm evacuations of nearby buildings, and began extinguishing the main body of fire.
The fire was contained approximately 20 minutes after arrival, but mop-up and overhaul were extensive due to the heavy timber construction of attached buildings and metal frame of the remaining structure. A Kern County Fire Department Dozer was brought in to assist with breaking up the large debris pile from the structure and help extinguish hidden fire. The structure had been reported recently vacant.
The cause of the fire was undetermined as of press time. There were no injuries or casualties were reported.
