Fire ravages dwelling, garage Friday, Oct. 7

By LAURA Austin News Review Staff Writer– At about 2:45 PM on Friday, October 7, 29 personnel from the Kern County Fire Department, Ridgecrest Police Department, and China Lake Fire Department, were dispatched to a working structure fire at a home on N. Mahan St., in Ridgecrest.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a large fire burning scores of items in the yard, a vehicle, buildings, and trees. An aggressive attack began, pulling multiple attack lines to protect exposures and fight the large volume of fire and exploding propane tanks. Fire was burning in two buildings. The detached garage was fully involved, and fire spread into the attic of the main dwelling.

Primary and secondary searches for victims were conducted and found no one inside. 

In total, firefighters were on scene for approximately five hours conducting extensive overhaul and mop-up to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist two adults who were displaced as a result of the fire. Emergency  First Responders would like to remind the public to please refrain from entering the vicinity of fires and other emergency situations.
