Tuesday morning, February 14, Kern County Fire Department units, with mutual aid from China Lake Fire, were dispatched to a reinforced structure fire in the 400 block of Fountain Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an attached garage fully involved with fire, threatening additional homes.
Responding resources quickly stopped the fire, which caused an estimated value loss of $70,000 to the houses. Firefighters battled the blaze with wind gusts up to 40 mph to protect the structures. No injuries were reported.
A second fire was reported Wednesday morning, February 15, shortly after 8 AM. Kern County firefighters again responded to a fire call at 555 S. China Lake Blvd., where at least one room of the Travel Suites Motel was fully involved.
The motel has been vacant for a time and blocked off to public access while undergoing complete renovations.
As of press time, the cause of the fires has not been announced.
