The Aguabonita Flyfishers Michael Peters–

The Aguabonita Flyfishers program for April 4 is Michael Peters, owner, and guide, of Long Branch Fly Fishing.  Mike hails from the Lakewood area of California and is a Long Beach Casting Club member.  He will share his experiences fly fishing on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska.

Mike started out fishing the ocean and spent countless hours on trips fishing for tuna, shallow-water rockfish, and many other species.  He has fished off the San Diego coast and the Channel Islands near Ventura and Santa Barbara.  He has fished all over the country for trout in areas like Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada.  He has traveled to Oregon and the Trinity River in Northern CA for steelhead.  He also has experience fishing the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. He has over a decade of experience fishing for salmon in Alaska, where he currently holds a guide’s license and hosts an annual guided trip to Alaska.

In addition to all his fishing experience, he also attended South Lake Tahoe Guide School and has received professional training in the sport of fishing.  Mike is active in the local fly fishing clubs like the Long Beach Casting Club and Orange County Fly Casters.  He competed in the Long Beach Casting Club Open Two-handed Spey Casting Tournament and won the men’s amateur division in 2020.

Mike was a panel speaker on saltwater fishing for the 2022 Double Hall Ball in Long Beach.  He was invited to be a panel speaker for Patagonia in Santa Monica for the debut of the film Mighty Waters in 2022.  Mike is a financial advisor at a major Wall Street firm in his spare time.

We will host our speaker for dinner at Ale’s Steakhouse at 1030 N Norma at 5:30 PM before our general meeting at 7:30 PM.  Join us and enjoy some early camaraderie with fellow fly fishers.
