Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s Office–
On March 30, amid the highest inflation the country has seen in decades, House Republicans made a Commitment to America to lower energy costs and set the country back on the right track. On March 30, House Republicans kept that commitment.
The Republican majority passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, to reduce global emissions, streamline the permitting process, and reduce energy costs. It passed with bipartisan support in the House.
But this fight isn’t over. That’s why Speaker McCarthy and other Members of the House Republican Conference held a press conference to demand the Senate pass the legislation and to urge President Biden to sign it into law.
“It’s a good day in America for American families, the environment, and most importantly, the future of this country.
“Republicans went across the country more than a year ago to listen to America.
“House Republicans made a Commitment to America to lower energy costs.
“That’s precisely what this bill does. We made it H.R. 1 to put money back in American families’ pockets, reduce global emissions, and make the world safer.
“By doing so, China will no longer dictate the critical minerals supply.
“If the President signs H.R. 1, we will produce them in America.
“No longer will the Governor of California buy oil from Vladimir Putin.
“He can buy it from his state.
“We can produce the energy here in America.
“Under H.R. 1, America and our allies won’t be forced to rely on Russian natural gas, which is 41 percent dirtier than American natural gas.
“If we had replaced Russian natural gas in Europe for just one year, we would have reduced C02 emissions by 218 million tons.
“That can take place if President Biden signs this bill.
