Linda K. (Sellers, Thomas) Turner was born July 2, 1954, to Lawrence and Joan Sellers. Linda was the oldest of three children. She passed away on April 20, 2023, following a 12-month fight with a glioblastoma brain tumor.
Being the child of a Navy father, they moved up and down the west coast every two to three years. During her junior year in high school, the family moved to Indian Head, Maryland, where her father was the Master of Arms at the EOD school. After graduating from high school in 1972, she met EOD Specialist David Thomas, married in 1972, and moved to NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii, for three years. In 1976 they moved back to Indian Head, MD, for four years. While stationed there in 1976, Michael Thomas was born at Andrews Air Force Base. In 1980, the family moved back to Ewa Beach, Hawaii.
In 1983, the family moved to Sasebo, Japan. While there, Linda could travel to Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. In 1985, the Navy moved her family back to Indian Head, Maryland. Then in 1986, the family was stationed at China Lake, California. While here, Linda worked for the Daily Independent for a short time. Then in 1988, she went to work for SSUSD at Richmond Elementary School for the next 22 years. She was a teacher’s assistant for people with disabilities for the first two years, then was asked to run the computer lab. She saw all the students (~450) weekly for the next 20 years. She enjoyed working with the kids teaching them how to use the computers. In 1991, she and David separated and then divorced. She stayed in Ridgecrest when her son Michael wanted to finish and graduate from high school here.
She picked up playing golf when her son wanted to play. While playing golf, she was introduced to Alan Turner by a friend. They became best friends, then married on September 26, 1992. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church (IBC). She loved our Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart. She and Alan enjoyed hosting a home group Bible study in their home. After retirement in 2010, Linda was asked to be on the Child Development Center (CDC) board at IBC. She became a mentor mom for Mothers of Pre-School (MOPS), which she dearly loved, and was involved with Women of the Word (WOW) studies of the Bible.
She loved being with grandkids and family, golfing, dancing (rock and roll and square), traveling, hiking, reading good books, playing games, knitting baby blankets for family and friends, the beach, waterfalls, and Sedona, Arizona.
