Troy Mather initially pulled papers to run as a candidate for city mayor. He dropped out of the race and failed to meet the deadline of August 12 for filing with Kern County Department of Elections. Mather told The News Review that due to increased demands on his life that this was not timely.
Still in the running for mayor, is incumbent Eric Bruen. Running in opposition to Bruen is Thomas Wiknich. The city mayor position is a two-year term. Wiknich served as vice mayor and councilman from 1984 to 1988 and as vice mayor and councilman from 2006 to 2010.
Christopher Ellis, John P. “Skip” Gorman, incumbent Scott Hayman and Scott K. Miller are running for the two council seats. Council members have four-year terms.
The election will be held on Tuesday, November 8.
