Kern County Sheriff’s Office– Update: On the morning of January 3, 2023, at approximately 2:50 a.m., KCSO Ridgecrest Substation deputies and RPD officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting in the 300 block of Sahara Drive near La Mirage Lane in the city of Ridgecrest, CA. Ridgecrest Police Department officers attempted to de-escalate by negotiating with the suspect for approximately 30 minutes to reach a peaceful resolution.
On February 10, 2023, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office convened a Critical Incident Review Board examining the use of force in this incident. The use of force in this incident was determined to be within department policy.
On February 13, 2023, the Ridgecrest Police Department convened a Critical Incident Review Board examining the use of force in this incident. The use of force in this incident was determined to be within department policy.
