RC resident resists arrest found hiding from RPD in a garbage can

On February 3, at approximately 7:38 pm, Ridgecrest Police Department (RPD) Officers conducted a proactive enforcement stop in the 200 block of east of Upjohn Av.

During the stop, 37-year-old Shawn Leach was identified, and it was learned he had a felony warrant for his arrest. When RPD Officers attempted to take Leach into custody, he ran northbound, and a foot pursuit ensued. RPD Officers temporarily lost sight of Leach as he ran into the neighborhood of the 400 block of S. Lorie Ann St.

Additional RPD Officers responded to the scene, and a perimeter was quickly set up. RPD Officers began to conduct yard-to-yard searches with RPD Officer Henderson and his partner K-9 Max. RPD K-9 Max was able to locate Leach, who was hiding in a garbage can in the backyard of a residence. Leach was taken into custody without further incident and was later transported to the Central Receiving Facility- Bakersfield, where he was booked.
