Ridgecrest Adventist Elementary Bobcats visited the Trona Pinnacles on Monday. Teachers, students, their siblings, and parents spent the morning and early afternoon with a break for lunch. They traipsed on and around the giant tufa-rock formations located South of Trona. Tufa-rock was used by early pioneers for home-building materials. There are several small homes still in existence in Ridgecrtest built of tufa-rock. The Pinnacles were also the location used in several motion pictures, such as Star Trek, The Planet of the Apes, and Land of the Lost. The school takes several field trips in and around the Indian Wells Valley every year, adding to the enrichment of the student’s educational experience. The Adventist school has been serving the families of the Indian Wells Valley since 1952.
