Ridgecrest Police Department Sgt. N. Lloyd– On March 17, 2023, at about 12:14 AM, Officers of the Ridgecrest Police Department were dispatched to the Night’s Inn located at 706 N. Balsam St. regarding threats made with a firearm. Upon arrival, Officers contacted the victim and learned her boyfriend, Benjamin Herrera, had been acting bizarrely that day. While in her hotel room, Herrera pointed a loaded firearm at the victim and would not allow her to leave. Herrera eventually left the hotel room after he saw the victim had contacted law enforcement. The victim stated she was in fear and advised she was afraid Herrera would come back and harm her. A record check of Herrera revealed that he is a convicted felon with violent felony convictions. Officers spent the next several hours searching for Herrera and were able to locate him and the firearm, a 9mm non – serialized Glock handgun with large capacity magazines.
Herrera was arrested, booked, and later transported to the Kern County Jail.
