Robert Hintz

Robert Hintz passed away peacefully on February 3, 2023, at the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital after a severe illness, surrounded by loved ones.

Bob was born to Sam and Ann Hintz on December 13, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a youth, he lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and St Louis, Missouri, but spent most of his childhood in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Aken, in 1962 and worked for Allen-Bradley while attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After graduating in Physics in 1968, Bob took a job in China Lake, California, with the (then) Naval Ordnance Test Station (NOTS), which eventually became the Naval Air Warfare Center. He also took graduate courses in Physics at the University of Southern California (USC).

     Bob had an outstanding and distinguished career, developing carbon-dioxide lasers and maturing technologies such as advanced lasers and infrared sensors for military aircraft. He authored/co-authored over 50 papers and headed up national and international (NATO) technology groups.  He held eight patents and has many national awards for his contributions.

He is survived by his sons Chris (Patty) and Todd (Kristina), his sister Judy Tanaka (Wayne), brother Bill (Joan), and six grandchildren (Madeline, Cesalie, Kanen, Cienna, Colton, and Cruz) as well as many friends and relatives.

     A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held Saturday, February 25, from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Heritage Village Clubhouse. We look forward to sharing your memories of Bob.  (Please park in the Heritage Hotel parking lot across from the clubhouse.)
