By LAURA AUSTIN News Review Staff Writer– The Ridgecrest Police Department welcomed Manny Ybarra in a swear-in Tuesday as Ridgecrest’s newest Police Officer.

Ybarra graduated from Orange County Sheriff’s Academy in 2002 and later attended LA County Reserve Officer Academy in 2005. Ybarra was previously employed with the City of Orange as a Police Officer.  His most current assignment was as Sergeant for 2 1⁄2 years with Lovelock Colony Police Department.

Ybarra says his passion for law enforcement is driven by his great desire to help people. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities: off-roading, hiking, and camping.

The ceremony concluded with Ybarra thanking his family for supporting him throughout his journey.

During the badge presentation, Ybarra’s teenage son Manuel pinned his badge as Chief Michael Scott spoke of the significance of the badge. Scott began by noting that it is a symbol of public trust and to remember the code of ethics. He encouraged Ybarra to never forget why he wanted to enter Law Enforcement in the first place. “It will go a long way in you being successful in your chosen career,” Scott said.
