By LAURA QUEZADA News Review Staff Writer– Sierra Academy of Dance invites all levels of dancers ages 11 and over to audition. The audition is for two projects: the upcoming Tremain Dance Competition and Convention, which will be held in Anaheim from July 27 to 29, and/or a humanitarian project music video.
Auditions are tomorrow, Saturday, June 8, 1:30-3:30 pm for 11-13-year-olds and 4-6 pm for 14 and up. Dancers must have turned 11 by December 31, 2023. Dancers are asked to bring an 8X10 headshot, a water bottle, and dance shoes. They ask that you have your hair secured away from your face and wear all-black dance attire. The Academy is located across from the fairgrounds at 1008 Kyle Ct, turn at 751 S. Richmond. There is a $5 fee to be paid at the door.
Even if you don’t want to compete, dancers can attend the Convention. Last year, dancers from the Academy placed second and third in their ballet competitions. They had a lot of fun while working with famous choreographers and teachers. They danced all day, every day.
Guest choreographer Justyce has taught in Southern California from Los Angeles through the Inland Empire. She tells us, “In my time as a competitive coach, I competed in the Fly Dance Competition, fortunately placing in the junior, teen, and adult special needs category.” In addition to the video and Tremaine choreography, Justyce will be teaching a Hip Hop summer intensive dance program for those 7+ throughout the summer.
The Academy’s artistic director, Cate Demin, says, “Justyce is fun and energetic. All of the students love her.”
Sierra Academy of Dance will continue its regular classes of ballet, jazz, and tap as it has since 1979. The Academy has launched many dancers on a professional career, including dancing with the Cincinnati Ballet and Ballet West. For more information and to RSVP, call Tessa at (928) 910-5249 or email at
