Sierra Sands gears up for 2024 – 2025 school year

Sierra Sands Unified School District April Moore Superintendent–  As we gear up for another fantastic school year, I want to warmly welcome all our students, families, staff, and community members. Whether you’re a returning member of our district or joining us for the first time, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our educational family.

Students went Back to School on August 6. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been preparing diligently to ensure a smooth transition back to the classroom. We can’t wait to see our students’ smiling faces as they embark on a new year of learning and growth.

This year, we’re launching our “Portrait of a Graduate” initiative. It’s more than just academic achievement; it’s about developing well-rounded, compassionate, and resilient individuals. Our students will focus on essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and adaptability—the qualities that will serve them well beyond graduation.

We have established a Sierra Sands Scholarship Fund. We have added this as another avenue to support our students after graduation.

We are celebrating 50 Years of Excellence. Sierra Sands Unified School District has been a pillar of our community for half a century. Join us in celebrating this milestone as we reflect on our rich history and look forward to an even brighter future. We’ll be hosting special events throughout the year to honor our legacy and the countless lives we’ve touched.

Reinforcing Good Governance and Our Strong Code of Ethics is also a program. The District continues to be transparent, accountable, and a model of exemplary local leadership. That’s why the Board of Trustees adopted a recent Good Governance & Updated Code of Ethics over the summer.

District Reorganization is an exciting change on the horizon. In Fall 2025, we’ll launch two magnet schools and an independent study school. These innovative options will give students unique pathways to explore their interests and passions. Stay tuned for more details as we finalize plans.

We are welcoming new leaders. Please join me in welcoming Marina Amador, our new Principal at James Monroe Middle School. Marina brings a wealth of experience and a passion for student success. Additionally, Kristen Simpson has taken on the role of Community Schools Coordinator. She’ll be leading the opening of our Family Resource Center, a hub for support services and community engagement.

As we embark on this exciting journey together, please stay connected with our district through our website, social media channels, and community events. Your involvement makes a difference, and together, we’ll continue to shape the future of education in Sierra Sands.

Thank you for being part of our remarkable community. Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead.
