SR 14 claims four lives in fatal head-on collision

On December 29, 2023, at approximately 8:40 PM, California Highway Patrol (CHP), Kern County Fire Department rescue personnel and Liberty Ambulance responded to reports of a major traffic collision on State Route (SR) 14  south of Horse Canyon Road. Upon arrival at the scene, officers and firefighters found the wreckage of a two vehicle head-on collision.

Gregg Ray Sauer, 61 years old from Lancaster, CA, was driving vehicle #1, a 2002 Mercedes southbound on SR-14 south of Horse Canyon Road. Taylor Camille Romine was driving vehicle #2, a 2014 Jeep, northbound on SR-14 south of Horse Canyon Road in the northbound lane. Party #1 began passing a slower moving vehicle in the northbound lane and allowed his Mercedes to collide head-on with the front of Vehicle #2, the Jeep. As a result of the collision, Sauer and his passenger Ronald Eric Dene, 56 years old from Los Angeles, CA, succumbed to their injuries on the scene. Taylor Camille Romine, 23 years from Huntington Beach, California and one passenger, Rami Abdulrazak, 27 years from Yorba Linda, California, succumbed to their injuries on the scene. Party #2’s second passenger, Jordan Romine, 24  from Huntington Beach, CA, was transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center with major injuries.
