Searles Valley Minerals, Inc. issued the following statement in response to the Dec. 21 court decision.
Since the origination of our business 150 years ago in 1883, Searles Valley Minerals has been a major regional employer and strong community partner. We are committed to ensuring that our natural resources are sustainably managed and protected for future generations. The December 21 court decision indicated that the Indian Wells Valley Groundwater Authority has no authority in its statute to determine or allocate water rights. Thus, the hearing has reaffirmed our ability to protect our longstanding, senior water rights position. To date, we have yet to see a reasonable or feasible strategic plan for how the Groundwater Authority will responsibly manage this critical resource.
