Burroughs High School Mahnoor Ahmad–
If you ask the Burroughs varsity football team, the final scoreboard was only a part of the story in last week’s 55-0 loss to the undefeated Oak Hills Bulldogs.
For some, the David-and-Goliath match-up offered a chance to learn from a talented team.
Coach Foisy said, “This was a team to improve on,” Senior Tyler Mather said, “Not every team gets to play the No. 15 team in the State of California, and to do so prepared us for our upcoming games. I felt really good about being able to play such a great team and help grow our team’s confidence. They finally know that we can play with every team.”
The boys also appreciated the support of the crowd.
“The fan support is always great when it’s Friday night,” said junior Tyler Henden.
Mather agreed.
“The fan support was amazing,” said Mather. “It feels awesome knowing your community has your back even during a rough game.”
Now the team is focused on Friday’s away game against the Serrano Diamondbacks (5-1).
“I’m preparing for this week by drinking water and taking care of all the aches and bruises,” said Mather. “I’ve also been trying to study game film and just get my mindset into freak mode for Friday.”
The Burros return home Oct. 14 for their Senior Night game against Sultana.
