Volunteers needed for Tax-Aide

Indian Wells Valley Tax Aide Jan Bennett– We are looking for compassionate and friendly volunteers to join our  team of local Californians for the upcoming tax season. We’ll provide the training and support to help you learn new skills, and you’ll get a great feeling from helping those in need.

Each year over 35,000 Tax-Aide volunteers serve over 2 million people nationally. Last tax season, volunteers filed returns for approximately 225 taxpayers in the Ridgecrest area.

Tax Counselors work with taxpayers by filing tax returns. Client Facilitators welcome taxpayers, help organize paperwork, and manage the overall flow of service. Technology Coordinators manage computer equipment, ensure taxpayer data is secure, and provide technical assistance to volunteers. We have a big demand for bilingual speakers in all roles.

All new volunteers must attend an Orientation. You will have the opportunity to discuss which volunteer position is best for you. All positions must attend additional training sessions.

Some computer skills are required but training will be provided by experienced Tax-Aide volunteers. The program operates from February 1 through April 18 with a minimum service commitment of 10-12 hours per week. Training (40-80 hours) will be from December to February. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage. Students may earn college credit.

This year we will be able to interview taxpayers in person in Ridgecrest while complying with Covid protocols. If you are interested in volunteering, please call 760-382-4488 or 760-446-9199.   Leave your name and phone number and a good time for us to call you.
